Any system is only as good as it's
weakest
link - dont shortcut on interconnects! |

Gold Plated RCA's and BNC's
are worth the expense |
Much hype surrounds audio and video
interconnects. At the end of the day the job of an
interconnect is to deliver the signal from one point to another
with minimum loss and maximum protection from stray signal ingress
(noise). As a rule of thumb the thicker the interconnect the
better the quality - but not always! Another rule of thumb is that
you should spend around 5% of your home theatre budget on
interconnects.
A word on directional cables - these are interconnects that have
arrows on them - this is not the direction that the signal travels
- rather the end of the interconnect that has the shield wire
connected to the shield connector. This is done to eliminate ground
loops and the shield end (direction of the arrow) should always be
the middle of the system - usually the processor.
Your home theatre consultant will make interconnect suggestions
for you and usually arrange the installation of the system - having
an AV professional install your system means you will get the best
from your investment and means you don't have to worry about which
way the arrows are running!
